About Rodents

Mice and rats are common in Central Alabama homes and businesses. They enter through tiny gaps looking for food and warmth, especially in fall and winter.

Habits and Behavior

Rodents gnaw constantly to keep their teeth trimmed, damaging wires, wood, and stored goods. They leave droppings, gnaw marks, and greasy rub marks along walls. Both mice and rats breed rapidly, turning a small issue into a serious problem within months.

Common Rodents in Central Alabama

  • House Mice: Small gray mice that nest in walls and cupboards.
  • Norway Rats: Large brown rats that burrow around foundations and sewers.
  • Roof Rats: Slim black rats that climb trees and enter attics.

Risks to Homes and Health

Rodents contaminate food with droppings and urine, spread diseases such as salmonella and leptospirosis, and can spark electrical fires by chewing wiring.
